All the confusion and political divisiveness is the result of a large part of the developed country's citizens choosing to live in a fantasy world that they script for themselves imagining they are in some kind of movie where a rag-tag group of buddies go in to a melee with guns blazing and walk away victorious while things are exploding in the background. They listen to what satisfies them but not what informs them. They believe what makes them feel powerful not what they need to be doing to secure their lives. All they need to do is wipe out all the left or right wings and everything will be perfect.

All civilizations eventually collapse and we are on the verge of the inevitable next one. There is nothing we can do to stop it. As Long John Silver in Stevenson's Treasure Island says “Thems that die'll be the lucky ones.”

Sit back and ride it out if you are able knowing that you are witnessing a major event in human history. Enjoy.

A rather pessimistic view but probably true. The human race will likely continue though and the prophecy "The meek shall inherit the Earth" will probably be realized. Hope it isn't me that inherits the Earth. It's become a real shithole planet lately. Maybe the meek can improve things a bit.
