Texas DPS director calls police response to Uvalde massacre 'an abject failure'

The DPS Officer in charge should be indicted for the murder of 19 people. That's my opinion for what its worth.

Yes.

Was DPS in charge? I don't think they are same as local Uvalde coppers.
Uvalde protocol (from training a few weeks previous) was to go after a shooter as soon as a single copper shows up. Be agressive!!
I could see if a single copper wanted to wait around for backup -- if he gets potted we don't want the little shite to get the copper's guns.
But, if any kids were shot after a 2nd copper was on site, both coppers should be charged. Not fired, charged with being an accomplice. Ditto for any other ditherers. Potential hostage situation is crappola so long as kids were bleeding out.

I haven't begun to dig into the legal side, but I suspect they will get off because they were "following orders". Doesn't mean we have to accept them in society though. Now whoever gave the orders can go suck on a lethal injection. There were calls coming in FROM the fucking classroom! There's no other way to look at it. It was fucking evil incarnate.

DPS (Department of Public Safety) is a euphemism for Criminal Thugs of Organized Criminals acting under the cover of Law.

@Heresiarch No, it is not. In Texas the DPS is a merger of the old Rangers and the State Police. They answer to the gov'na and the state legislature. Even way over here in CaCaLand the state coppers are relatively reliable and responsible. The same can usually be said for county sheriffs. The latter deal with so many weird things (e.g., horses on street, biker gangs, etc) that they tend to hire stable folks and non-wackos.
Uvalde police answer to the city council of Uvalde. They, like most municipal coppers are only as good/reliable as the city council. If the council is woke or otherwise broken, the local police are totally unreliable. If a city suffers from Antifa/BLM thuggery because the police have been told to stand down by the council that is the council's fault -- but no honest copper would continue to work there.
SFAIKnow, it was the Uvalde coppers that told everyone to wait -- contrary to their own directives.

@bobbo666 Thanks for the correction and additional information.

@Heresiarch Please don't take my rambling to mean I don't consider some police depts to be absolute thugs. E.g., those that don't corral Antifa/BLM thugs and then enforce mask rules or lockdowns. If they do that, I take the side of TimmPool: defund the police entirely, every last one. Everybody carry and let the thugs find out who isn't .

an abject failure or a deliberate one

Doubt we'll ever determine that. Definitely should be investigated though.

It is quite possible that the slaughter was deliberate, an action on the part of the Uvalde city council -- like many told the coppers to stand down when Antif/BLM thugs rioted in 2020. I wonder how many city council members had their kids in that school.

@bobbo666 and what political affiliation are the council members.....hmmm

@Weltansicht Just heard this morning that the head Uvalde copper that "allowed" this is on suspension. I believe that he also recently stepped down to assume a position on that same council.
Oops. Sounds like somebody is gonna be thrown under a bus.

@bobbo666 I seen one, that a police officer was restrained from going in to help by other officers. His wife was one of the teachers who reported the active shooter and was killed. I'd like to talk to him or actually rather listen to him for as long as he wanted to talk.
