Saying the mentally ill need help is not denying their existence, it is affirming it.

I kinda look at it more as a spiritual illness. I know of gay guys who are no longer gay after becoming Christian.

Sexual orientation is innate. BUT, it is malleable. In other words, you CAN decide to change your choice of partners - even if the innate preference remains the same.

Personal experience.

@tracycoyle the inclination to sin is innate in all of us. It just manifests in different ways.

@eschatologyguy It is only a sin if the dogma is believed. And you can believe it FOR me, but it doesn't make it true.

@tracycoyle I'm not believing it for anybody. It just is, whether we believe it or not. An adulterer or, say, a pedophile, may not believe it is sin to commit such things, but their unbelief does not negate the fact that such acts are sin. It can be applied to any kind of sin or disobedience to God. I used to commit a lot of sinning knowingly. Sin remains a struggle for every living believer. 1 John 1:8 says (to believers) that if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But we have what many call a bar of soap in the next verse, in that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It's a daily struggle to live a life that is pleasing to God. Remember that adulteress whom the Jews brought to the Lord who wanted her stoned to death? And He said let those without sin throw the first stone? That record delineated the break from the age of the Law of Moses to the present age of Grace, which heralded the beginnings of the Church age. This age of grace will end when the church is taken out of the earth and believers will be given a glorified body where gender will no longer be an issue 😊and unprecedented lawlessness will prevail on the earth for a number of years. Man's inhumanity to man will result in a huge casualty count. Then He returns with His saints. Many think that the bible is a boring book. I think it is a "wild" book and I believe what it says.

@eschatologyguy I think Scripture is full of wisdom, and a lot of dangerous things too (genocide in the name of God being one). Sin, is a word used by religion to denote failure to adhere to a rule of the God in question. A violation of a person - of their rights, CAN be a sin, but it is irrelevant to the person violated. I am glad you have something to live by, a set of rules, or guidelines that suggest you will be a better person for having done so. And that of course, there is some benefit in the hereafter for both doing so AND believing in the importance of it. Of course, grace requires only the last, but by their works....

I am not dismissing the point: violating someone's rights I consider worthy of action. I am not going to leave it up to some deity to balance the ledger at some future point. And given I am a reprobate, I figure win or lose, I will see what the other side of the door brings, when I step through it.
