In the 70's, flying in the Lockheed Electra's between Australia and NZ an observer in the same locality as that depicted here, could be amused by watching the loose rivets doing a dance and the oil pumping out due to the capillary action between the loose engine fairings

That looks like the kind of aircraft inherited by the Marine Corps in the '70s from the Air Force and the Navy. We actually flew in a C 130 with the engine farings loose.

What must it be like today with the hiring policies of both the military and private companies? I don't ever fly, until that day.

@lawrenceblair I pity the pilot who trusts his or her life to an aircraft engineered by people who think 2+2 could equal 5.
