Those of us with limited resources and power must do our best to remain sane to get along in the World, and if we act foolish, we will be socially in trouble very quickly. So maybe we get counseling and do our best to stay sane.
The more power a person has, the more they can believe anything they choose. They really don't have to care what people think, and the more likely they are to be delusional.
But that guy was always a sociopath anyway and started out not caring, so he has had a big head start on being delusional.
