Isa 66:8 Who has heard such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? shall a nation be brought forth at once? for as soon as Tziyon travailed, she brought forth her children.

A just G-d was allowing everyone to know that the nation of Israel would be no more and that a future date it would be re-established in one day.

Mar 13:28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
Mar 13:29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
Mar 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

The above means that when Israel was once again established after 2000 years of no nation that it would be a sign to the world that time was running out, that a righteous G-d would soon return to judge the inhabitants of the earth.

Psa 90:10 The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.

1Th 5:3 For when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

The above verse gives the general number of decades that a generation lives to see, which points to a just G-d, not wanting anyone to persish but to all have a chance to repent before the "Great and Terrible Day of The Lord" when there will be weeping and knashing of teeth and sudden destruction.
