It makes sense for norway to be all in on electric. They have access to a great deal of hydroelectric power, they have a small population and the distances to drive aren't horrendous. The US is a bit different. A change over like that is more complicated and difficult. What do you do driving through te west where you can't charge up as often? Further, they skate past the large environmental impact electric cars have. All of that heavy metal used to build batteries for electric cars really undercuts the "green" nature of electric cars. I believe there is a future for electric cars, but saying combustion engines are dead seems a bit premature, without further development of the electric car.
