This is just a random query. Anyone here enjoy classic cartoons (year range from about 1920's-1950's)? A few days ago I was doing some research on the topic of political correctness and how it has negatively influenced society, and came across an article that mentioned about a list of classic cartoons that more or less have been banned from television stations like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon due to being deemed inappropriate in some way or another. That got me thinking about maybe starting a group on here for the sharing of rare and politically incorrect classic cartoons. Or maybe post some strictly to my profile every now and then. Depends on any feedback I get. It's a shame so many good oldie cartoons are no longer being aired on the well known tv stations due to phony outrage from the cancel culture.

Interesting observation - which may be incorrect. Let me know...

I believe the terminology "political correctness" did not exist prior to the 1980s. Images and such that were "banned" prior to the age of "political correctness" were generally censored for sexual content - pornographic imagery and dialogue.
During the period between the 1920s and up to the 1960s there was little or no objection to "cartoons" or movies that depicted unflattering stereotypes of Black People and those were produced and viewed by the public by the thousands. The "censors" sought to shield the general population from pornography and from seditious political, anti American content.
Post what you will - I will decide for myself whether to give it a "like" or to give it a "dislike" and if I "dislike" something I would leave a comment about my objection to whatever it may be. I'm a big boy - I can speak for myself.

No, I'm talking about these cartoons being labeled politically incorrect in recent times, say within the last fifteen or so years. For example, many years ago Cartoon Network every June used to have a special called June bugs that was a mini marathon of Bugs Bunny cartoons, and by around the year 2005 that special had ended and forget where I heard about it now but it was supposedly pulled along with most other Looney Tunes cartoons due to being considered politically incorrect. So the objection to said cartoons that I was referring to along with the labeling was in recent times.

@SpikeTalon well lets see what cha got - bring it on

@iThink Think I might start out by posting only to my profile, as I usually only post about politics and technology on the general feeds.

@iThink You might find this interesting-

Walt Disney WWII Camouflage Army Air Force

Political correctness may serve some immediate need like in WW2. After the war was won Walt Disney did not continue to make cartoons with anti Japanese caricatures.

The problem is when a politically correct meme has too much success. It gets abused and applied to everything. It gets used way beyond its original useful time period. It can become an entrenched dogma like the many used by the Woke or SJWs. Like finding sexism or racism everywhere. Its a tool to game a social hierarchy elevating themselves without any real merit.

The Woke or SJW may promote memes that are fake and have no bases in reality. When applied to cartoons they may be viewed as dull and not interesting. In the end they will be rejected as they are false.

excellent point - you articulated very well some of the things I was thinking.

My grandson loves those old cartoons like Popeye, Roadrunner and Coyote and some of the others.

Popeye is one of my favorites.

Great idea!

Younger people who’ve grown up under post-modern “purity” doctrine have no idea how much our creative energy has been restricted and suppressed.

I know many of the older classics, especially the Warner Brothers cartoons like Bugs Bunny were heavily edited and then started to disappear. The biggest concern cited is usually violence, although that restriction doesn’t seem to apply to video games or rap music.

Or Power Rangers, or Pokemon or Homer choking out Bart. There is plenty of violence in entertainment, I never took the comic mutilations of cartoon characters like Tom the cat, Daffy or Sylvester seriously.

They even took a swipe at the older Bugs Bunny. But stuff from the 30s,a nd 40s I am sure caused a few mental melt down with the younger generations when they saw them.

Yeah especially ones from the 1930's, I know quite a few good ones that are now labeled politically incorrect.
