A few random thoughts, for what they’re worth.

We’re going to get through this mess, most of us. And we’re going to be stronger on the other side. We’re learning, and growing. And that is good. And if we don’t make it at least we tried. And that also is good.

I don’t intend to forget the lessons I have learned here soon, the most important being to value freedom more than security. But most people do not. To seek truth, even when people do not always express it. And knowing it is difficult to discern when people are lying and when they simply don’t know. To forgive the not knowing and to condemn the deliberate falsehood.

That the goal should be to achieve our best; whatever that may mean for you, or me. And when you don’t achieve it, to pick yourself up and try again. So you at least don’t lose sight of it.

Because if I’m going to die, and I certainly am, I’m not going to die without a fight. I’m not going to die without trying to make my moments better.

I remember an anecdote attributed to Virginia Woolf. She was in her garden near London when the air raid sirens began. Her husband Leonard called to her from the house, urging her to hurry inside. She replied, “I may be killed by barbarians but I shall not be intimidated by them.”

I should like to adopt a similar attitude.

As a Paramedic for 22 years (disabled 15 years now) I happened to see a lot of death and destruction. On the sharp end I've seen people live when they shouldn't have and people die when the shouldn't have. Thing happen that are outside of explanation by MD's at the time. Unless your head is removed from your body or some other massive trauma, our saying was, "never say never in medical". With all that said prayer does work, I can say that after about 15 surgeries and 1 that almost killed me. Faith is the key. Not faith in a church or building, but faith that there is a God. Because no one is getting out of life alive, but that doesn't mean we give up, fight to the end.

Maybe if we all try to adopt this graciousness the panic will slow down. Prayers for all.

Prayer you say. Do you know of any time in the history of planet Earth where that's worked?

@angelo as a hospice nurse for many many years, yes I have seen it work. If you don't have faith no one can give it to you...it's your loss. For many of us this is a time to seek comfort.

@Dmwils that's really great if that brings comfort to some people. Especially at the end, or close to death. It makes their passing so much more pleasant to themselves and perhaps their loved ones.

@angelo yes. Many many times. The battle of Lepanto, my daughter's remarkable recovery from kidney failure and more events than I will ever realize.

@angelo. With all due respect, I have seen prayer work, when there was no other rational explanation. I am a skeptical mechanical engineer, who must always speak carefully to maintain credibility in my profession, so I never say anything I have not witnessed personally, or am sure about in some verifiable way, such as by someone like myself, who I trust to be absolutely truthful. I don't believe photographic evidence of reflections are proof of UFOs. I don't believe in conspiracy theories. I HAVE witnessed miracles.

@TimTuolomne. I'm sorry mate, but until I see scientifically proven evidence to the contrary. I remain skeptical of any supernatural claims.
Remember, extraordinary claims,require extraordinary evidence.

@angelo. I have no problem with your point of view sir.

@angelo it is not up to us to force your acceptance of faith..It is up to you to seek out the Lord.

@Dmwils They seek here, they seek him there but he/she is nowhere to be found except in the deepest recesses of certain people's imagination.

@angelo "they seek here and they seek there" does not work..you must seek him for yourself. Faith isn't bought at the store..it is in you. You have faith in many things you cannot see, faith in God is the same.

We are all going to die sir. I commend your courage in facing it whenever it is to happen, even if it is tomorrow. And I admire your statement of graciousness of the ignorant. Our estimation of others says more about our own character than it does about others. And our understanding of the limit and responsibility within our own boundaries alone may not always be shared by others either. Godspeed.

By all means adopt that attitude, as it is a good one to take, and I'll join you for that matter.
