You're so right about the poor dog, same as the story about the poor Circus Elephant, it had been chained in the same spot right beside the owner's caravan, only being led into the tent between acts and then returned, then they showed how they could unchain the elephant, and he wouldn't move from the spot, not that he didn't want to move off, but because he was too afraid to, it was the only life he'd known since he was born and had the chain put on!
