Do you watch sports?
What do you watch?
Who's your team?
Who's your hero?
I love Notre Dame football. They’re my hometown team. Grew up a Bears fan and still miss Walter Payton. I have a 34 in my email address as a nod to Walter. Jumped ship to the Colts in ‘95 and named our Golden Retriever Peyton Manning. I live in Kentucky Wildcat country but cheer for IU basketball. Go Hoosiers!
I used to be but when the game became all about money ... I gave up on it.
It used to be that your sports figures were local people. They lived in our towns, went to our churches, their kids were our classmates, their loyalty was to their fans and communities.
While I will occasionally watch or even go to a Cubs game...and even watch NASCAR from time to time, I would not consider myself a sports fan. I used to be, until I realized just how much it was being used to distract us. It's truly sad when a grown man can recite the batting average or yard ran from their favorite sports teams but can't even name the Ten Commandments or understand the constitution.
I don't begrudge people their pleasures. Otherwise, we're stuck with the dull gray existamce of the former Soviet Union. If the Poindexter Politicos were paying attention to sports, they would have watched socialism waltz into the hearts and minds of Americans through the NFL salary cap, then they would understand why the game is so terrible now. Those who understand the details of things that entertain them, probably understand, or at least have more of a capacity to understand more important things about government and religion. Sports are historically collegiate and follow patterns of religion. Sunday football echoes church attendance, and strict adherence to fundamentals of sports reflect the practice of morality. Don't under estimate sports-smart people.
