Since the brexit fiasco I've decided UKIP or Britain first, it depends if they have someone representing these political parties in the next general election. But then again, as with baby remainers, I may not like the outcome of that vote and want a re election. I voted leave by the way.

In walking through political positions, probably important to overlay my own personality traits with the issues on the political spectrum to help separate my real positions vs. what I grew up with or the position of an ideological group I might belong to and simply put on for the faux sense of moral clarity it seems to offer.

If you don’t know, here is a pretty good place to start..

I'm just a bit right and libertarian from center. Used to be a lot more libertarian then I grew up, became a 40 something and more conservative. Don't know if it was age and experience or just a reaction to the current social changes and exposure to the far left.

Before the rise of popularism that came with the Trump election I was a mostly comfortable farmer living my life in Canada and seldom had any interest in world politics because I was just focusing on my business and being active in local politics only as they concerned me and my family immediately. Having the random great luck of being born White in a country on the planet that has for most of my life been one of the best places to live in the world I have to say that if one wanted trouble or much to worry about he had to kind of look for it. What an awakening the last couple of years have brought to this continent. Being close to retirement and having children and even grandchildren to consider as the future unfolds in this incredibly uncertain new era has brought me staggering to the edge of the abyss that present governments are herding all of us towards. Most of us in the Western world (especially those blessed with White Privelege) have had the incredible good fortune to have lived a lifetime of what has likely been the the best time man has been on the planet. It has been confusing and shocking to watch civility and common decency among all of us fall away and be replaced by selfish frightened bigotry and racism. It saddens me to come to the place where I am still shocked by this daily spectacle of ugliness among friends and neighbours that somehow was only slightly beneath the surface of their personalities and I fear they themselves were in some cases unaware of its existence as well. I hope there is a hero or two in the populace that can slowly bring us together and away from the edge before this gets even uglier than what we have already witnessed.

I'm closer to being a libertarian but not entirely. I hate both parties but I hate the Republicans less then I hate the Democrats. I would have voted far right but that seems to big government too.

It depends on how you define the spectrum. I'm libertarian leaning, and fiscally conservative. I believe in small government, personal responsibility, and freedom.

1

I'm center-left. Doesn't figure on your poll.

Mid right with classical libratarian leanings.
That's a thing right?

5

I now hate ALL politicians ! Period. When President Trump got in and I heard him talk like us the middle class it was like taking a breath of fresh air. I still laugh to when he said "shit holes" to this day!! Lmfao, I said to myself now there's a guy to relate to. It's so important to vote for the person and not the party. I didn't forget the WTC , cheney and the fuckin bush's!!!!

That depends on the particular issue, but generally center right.

Fascist policies sound to me, based on books I have read, as coming from the left. Under Hitler, Germany enacted large public works programs and established an increase in food lines. Fascism forced many small businesses out and regulated large ones. Fascism placed party members on corporate boards. Fascism set number of hours worked and regulated work through a separate wing of the NAZI party. It apears as though the placement of fascism on the right is due to the view of the master race.I don't see master race ideologies being supported by any mainstream parties in the US. But I do see economic policies and strategies that are socialist being supported by the left. The nasty part of reinforcing these policies is what we remember of Stalin, Hitler, Mao.

Left wing , right wing - its the same bird! These days we vote for the party that will do the LEAST amount of "damage " to the citizens.. but in the end? - they are both the same group - its like the political version of WWE Wrestling. its simply " entertainment " for the masses.

that is an easy answer, and certainly true, to an extent.... But, in reality, there are major differences between the left and right...

I call it old time wrestling. They pretend to kill one another in the ring and after all get drunk and celebrate how good it is to live the lives of kings and queens.

@rogue Bloody oath mate.....that's exactly the way it happens...its all smoke and mirrors - these days I refer to it as " political theater " - for the masses.

@Raphio To be honest mate, I'm not too sure about that - I think of it this way:

One side wants to fuck you over using a combination of Socialism, communism and left wing ideology to the point where we are broke, powerless, and under complete control of those that " rule " - the OTHER side wants to achieve the SAME goal - but THEY use big business to erode our independence which will ALSO send us broke and have us powerless - and ( yet again ) under the complete control of those that " rule ".
The only difference I can see is the " methods " used - the goal is the same......

To put the global population in a position where they are disarmed, financially broken, and in such social disarray regulated , manipulated and controlled to the degree where " personal freedom " is a thing of the past, and we are reduced to nothing more than slaves.

Please allow me to expand on, and qualify my point by showing how ALL sides of the political spectrum have bipartisan approaches to particular legislation because its in BOTH sides best interests.

Take the issue of " privacy ". - Regardless of their political differences - ALL sides have adopted the same stance on this matter - using unjustified rhetoric to achieve the same goal. which is the LOSS of your right to privacy.

This can range from " the outlawing of encryption systems WITHOUT Government access( or back-door access ) to such systems nation wide.

THE OFFICIAL REASON: - " As your government, it is our DUTY OF CARE to prevent the expansion of terrorist activities to keep the population " safe " - in other words, its for YOUR benefit.

The " REAL " reason - simply look at the history of the 5th of November speech. ( remember, remember the 5th of November - the gunpowder, the treason, the plot ( etc )....in actual fact, those in power learned a great lesson from the plot to overthrow governments by its people so ( as was the case with government spies or in THAT particular case a government spy foiled the attempt and those responsible were dealt with. ( [history.com] )

However these days, its Technology that is doing the work by giving governments the ability to use that technology as an early warning system to head off and snuff out any such future attempt.

The other end of the scale that is commonly used are the casual statements -

( there IS NO privacy anymore - they already KNOW everything your doing. ) or ( if your not doing anything wrong - then you have nothing to worry about ) or even ( if you fight for your right to privacy, then you must be doing something illegal. )

The last being the case? - then next time you have sex, then remember to take down the curtains in your front bedroom, or have your bathroom or toilet converted to glass walls and surrounds....

( this is obviously a silly statement to make right ? ) - because NONE of theses things are indeed " illegal "....yet they are still matters of " privacy " - and no rational person, government or corporation would need to know such things....However, it may interest you to know ......No less than FACEBOOK analytics know when women are having their period. Sounds bizarre right? ...well its not.

As reported in The Telegraph

[telegraph.co.uk]

So while the " outward methods may appear totally different in their projected ideologies - the truth is they ALL ( through many and varied techniques ) are aiming for the same goal. ALL of them are of the " Fabian Society " persuasion - they are ALL Effectively " Wolves in sheep's clothing ". 😉

@ROGAN I'm dead center, this way I can watch both sides to see who has the best ideas. The way it is now it really makes no difference because there ALL the same, take and take more. I been passing around the idea in Canada for years now about each province would elect only the people from their own province and the runners have to be Canadian born, lawyers need not apply!! A country as big as ours a central government doesn't function well at all. ...........

Yeah, the current political spectrum is inadequate today. A proper dichotomy is from no government to total government not from an international socialist government (Communism) to a national socialist government (Fascism). It may have been a mistake to place them at opposite extremes or it may be on purpose if the perpetrators are working the Hegelian dialectic.

It was on purpose. Both ends socialist.

Yeah the way the spectrum was described to me in my socialist indoctrination (university) classes was that the spectrum is a circle with communism and fascism right next to each other at the top of the circle and socialism opposite at the bottom. I now do not agree with this method. I still think it’s a circle, but socialism is synonymous to communism. Socialism is the term communists use to misguide the public into believing they will provide for them without corruption. But it will always corrupt.

@Ehague
Communism and Fascism are both forms of socialism. Their similarities include totalitarianism and a centrally planned economy. This makes them entirely incompatible in the same area. Not opposites,
the similarities make them mutually exclusive not their differences. The differences are that communism is international in scope, it achieves the totalitarian goal through revolution and it incites the underclass or victim class to revolt. Fascism supports the ruling class and eliminates or dehumanizes any defined victim class. It is nationalist in scope. It is more evolutionary in its rise to power.

The "creeping" form of Socialism is perhaps more insidious as it slowly centralizes power but it has the same ends and will achieve the total state if not recognized. Every country, including the US, have adopted some socialist principles, socialized medicine, public education, central banking, a graduated income tax. All socialist concepts.

The circle political spectrum does not, in my view make it easier to understand political positioning. Obama was a Democrat, denied he was a socialist but wished to implement socialist policies, the redistribution of wealth, healthcare, and equality of outcome. We can see that would increase the scope and power of government. In a circle spectrum he would be at Democrat which is not traditionally socialist. On a left/right total government to no government scale we could easily see he was more a socialist than a democrat. As he moved the party left. Maybe Democrats thought that the party should move to being more socialist but moving toward totalitarian governments is not an American ideal.

Essentially, communism, fascism, socialism all forms of dictatorial, totalitarian governments. It is only obvious they would despise each other as they all desire control and power but they are not opposites nor are they the same.

This was surprisingly difficult to answer. The “right” and the “left” are such generalized words (even with “mid” and “far” caveats). Politics are so multi dimensional, and I suspect that we are currently experiencing a shift in our traditional thoughts on what these terms mean. To me, fascism represents the far right and communism the far left. In practice, there is little/no difference between far right and far left - they are both very authoritarian as opposed to libertarian. Right wing doesn’t even mean “conservative” anymore really, but right wing is more “progressive” (economically), and the Left wing has become “regressive” (economically and socially - their social policies are literally killing people). I guess I would have to call myself an economically progressive libertarian, but that choice wasn’t offered haha.

Well we see it happening before our eyes, the push to a one world order is great. In Canada we have the most corrupt leader in the modern world sense I don't no when. We hope he gets the boot soon so maybe, maybe we can pull us out the this rut. Our population is that of California and are loosing ground to these muslims coming in and getting money over hand and fist. The liberals won't tell us the truth about how much this will cost the Canadian people. Judging by the damage they have done to 4 star hotels I'm thinking our kids and theirs will be paying for.................

@rogue haha! I love your meme!
Hillary needs to be part of that Trudeau takedown as well.
