I avoid discussions with anyone who makes assertions that depend on being clairvoyant about what another person really meant, or what they were thinking. I either take what people say at face value, or if proven (not alleged) that they have lied to me once, I'm not listening anyway.
Anyone who does that is probably doing so because the actual truth is not moving their audience.
