Well, the “Mayor” is being pretty stupid in the way he’s letting things go on in his Community ... in his City.
The Nation ... He ... has been notified that destruction of Federal Property would not be tolerated and would result in arrests.
His “citizens” attack Federal Property and then scatter ... stroll away. The Federal Forces then have to round them up off the streets ... which is safer and better than them erupting from “buildings” and engaging in full blown counter assaults.
He should be working with his own Police and these additional forces to get things under control but seems more willing to let people run rampant so this is what happens.
Were I on the side of the rioters I would be pretty angry ... freaked out ... too but I’m not and I agree with their tactics.
Actually I'm thinking that water cannons and mass arrests would be better but ...

An actual Time Line of the “Events” in Portland Oregon as complied by the DHS ...

When the F^@K did being mayor become considered a position where you could tell the President ^Anything^ ? Let alone start making demands.

As I understand it, the federal government generally has no jurisdiction in matters of state or local law enforcement until state lines are crossed unless federal laws are being violated, or unless the mayor or governor requests federal assistance.

There has been some suggestion that federal property was under threat. Federal agents would have jurisdiction to protect that and arrest anyone who vandalized it or attacked federal agents who were guarding it.

Sure, there are ways for the president to acquire jurisdiction to carry out law enforcement operations at state and local levels, though I am not aware of him having done this yet. Therefore, the mayor is probably well within his rights to demand that the president withdraw federal forces from his jurisdiction until such time as the president acquires jurisdiction to take action there.

@DaveO276 Well that makes sense as to why the mayor would be making any type of demands of the president, although I still think of it as a rank type thing. If I was the leader of this country and one of my city leaders was letting things get out of hand and acting that way, they'd be without a job PDQ. It wouldn't matter that he's elected, he'd be gone.

@Not_Sure The thing is, the mayor of Portland is not "Trump's" city leader. Trump is the head of the executive branch of the FEDERAL government - that's it! I'm pretty sure there's literally nothing Trump can do to fire a mayor... except maybe invoke something like directive 51, but that would be insane!

The president has options for federal intervention in Portland, but getting rid of the mayor is not one of them.

I'm conflicted as to whether he should actually intervene... Would Portlanders vote for him in November if he cleans this up? Would they stop voting for Democrats? Or do they need a little more first-hand experience of how Democrats run things before they wake up?

@DaveO276 I don't think that they would ever vote for him. If he cleaned it up they would just regroup and resume. As others have stated, "There must be something in the water".
