"On some positions cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?!' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But conscience must ask the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a stand that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular. But one must take it because it is right. And that is where I find myself today." ~ ML King via Liz Reitzig

Cowardice is avoidance, politics is popularity, conscience knows what's right. Right stands alone as does truth.

MLK was known for [doing things](https://web.archive.org/web/20201101011143/[standpointmag.co.uk] that were neither safe, nor popular, nor right.

Never been much of a hero worshiper. I must have been born a cynical old man.

No doubt about it, which is why I don't hold much respect for the man. So much attributed to him was plagiarized, so I rarely share quotes attached to his name.

Gandhi as well. All people do bad things.
As exceptional men the bad that MLK, Gandhi, Tolstoy, etc. did was rather exceptional too. Just like their books, activism and lifestyles.

@wolfhnd admire the good they practice and/or preach, but don't worship the hero as a god.
