So I plan to go to this event.
What does the evidence and research show? Are there truly barriers to women entering tech? What if the majority of women are not interested in higher level mathematics nor high level logic and computing?
I completely agree that this idea that women have all these barriers is very untrue. I myself became a special education teacher because that's where my passion was and I need a job that I feel makes a difference every day to be satisfied. My dad is s computer programmer and loves math, so I definitely was exposed to that stuff and still went a different route. Technology is important and interesting to me, but I need more of a reason to go to work than that. Teaching is super rewarding and lots of women have a desire to nurture. I can't tell you how great it is to speak with others about these topics. Feminism was supposed to be about choice, but now we shame one another for doing exactly that. It's very disappointing to see. If you want to for a stay at home mom, that's awesome! You want to hire a nanny and go back to work good for you! Let's start lifting each other up! And stop acting like men are evil and are standing in our way. The only person who has power over your life is you and that's the truth!
Heres a question, is it be a barrier or a filter? making sure only women who are serious about the field to get in? maybe the problem is is that women feel theyre left out because they arent qualified for the job
@militantMom its just an old mind trick to get the ragers and haters to rage and hate
Jordan Peterson sites statistics of job preference differences among men and women in even the most 'liberal' societies (no imposed barriers to enter certain fields). Women tend to choose jobs/careers which require more human interaction, empathy, and caring for others, i.e. nursing, teaching, etc. Men and women are just different, and they really are different!
Yep!
I think the true barrier is the lack of interest from women themselves. “Approximately 10% of all Cyber, Network Security and IT jobs in Canada are held by women.”—I don’t know the stats but I’d think women probably hold only 10% or less of the degrees in these fields. Women make up more than half of the college students on campus in the US and they can choose whatever they want to study. The lack of female graduates in these fields correlates with the lack of interest. I know a few female computer engineers and believe me it’s much easier for them to find a job than their male counterpart.
"lets force women to like football" the only reason they don't like football is because of "barriers" and systemic sexism
I tend to think there's a lack of interest as opposed to barriers of the sorts.
