I think Europe looked at the US and thought, hey, we can do that too without realizing that their cultural differences and historical enmities are antithetical to creating a union such as ours. We're quite unique in our culture and it won't be easily replicated. I doubt our union would hold together if the civil war lasted a hundred years, or if Arkansas and Maryland had fought 150 wars over the course of a thousand years
