Their perspective on it is similar to, "Nothing to look at people, just move along...move along." Actually owning up to this failure they once supported would show them for what they are.

They don’t want people to figure out that socialism just doesn’t work.

They don’t want to draw attention to discussions of what led to the crisis and comparisons to their policies. They have the media to work that deflection.
