Are there any true scientific thinkers left like Sir Francis Bacon or Socrates, or is it a dead philosophy? How can modern thinking benefit from the thought experiments from human history? How can these methods of thought change the way we solve societal issues and progress as a species?

I think Sam Harris would fall in that category...

Thanks for the recommendation Spike. I have some reading to do soon.

I like to think of Dr. Peterson as a modern philosopher. He tends to have some interesting ways of looking at the problems a lot of people deal with in modern times.

Do you have any links to any of his media? Or any books you might recommend? I'm not familiar with Dr. Peterson's work. I'm always curious to hear others thoughts on modern day thought experiments or philosophy.

@Reapernine Dr. Peterson first gained notoriety in his opposition to a compelled speech law in Canada. The law still passed, but his argument against it was sound.

He has a book out called "12 Rules for Life; An Antidote to Chaos". It's actually a best seller. The following link is to his summary of the book in about 20 minutes:

This is the material that first put him on my radar.

I would also strongly suggest watching the Cathy Newman interview on the BBC. He dealt with her in an expert manner. It was a thing of beauty to see someone with common sense completely disarm a leftist media talking head.

I would recommend his lecture series available on youtube. Maps of Meaning is possibly the most profound bit of contemporary philosophy I have yet to encounter. His series on the psychological significance of the biblical stories is also incredibly enlightening.
