Hate Hoaxes. Why Smollet doesn't matter. I think many people are disappointed Smollet wasn't prosecuted because it would have sent out a public message hoaxes will be punished. However hate hoaxes happen everyday and go unpunished and the major deterrent to crime is likelihood of being caught which these people never are because there is no will to punish them. the public hanging of Smollet wouldn't have changed that.

I understand what you're saying, that's still not justice though. Smollett should have to pay a price for what he did, and the evidence was certainly there to convict him. Justice can be blind. Society needs to find the will to pursue folks like Smollett when they do something wrong.
