Question: What is your stance on states passing legislation allowing illegals to receive driver license and ,essentially, being allowed to vote?
Make a federal law that requires any state that issues I/D or drivers lic. to a non citizen, pay a tax to the federal government. Any such I/D, lic. will be bright yellow.
Bottom line, in the first place, issuing any such document should be a federal crime.....
I believe that Federal Law takes precedence....except when economic alien invaders are involved or a republican is the President....if both conditions exist....forget about it!
I like Federalism. The response should be to federally reject that state's ID as citizenship identification.
Under Article 4 section 2 - "The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States."
Since the ID no longer represents citizen status, any state that encounters such an ID may also impose restrictions on that ID until citizenship status is established.
Example, you get pulled over with a California ID in another state, that state doesn't know whether you are entitled to be driving on its roads and demands federal ID (ICE swings by and you get to go home). This can't be applied in reverse since citizenship entitles you to privileges and immunities.
I don’t know. The Federal ID idea seems a little Orwellian. I fear the Federal government almost as much as I loath the sanctuary situation. Just enforcing existing laws would curb much of the illegal immigration. Which of course MUST stop
@Boardwine - I am thinking the federal id in this case would be a social security number with matching name (same as what's required to get a REAL ID). It would only be necessary if the state you come from allows illegals to possess a drivers license and the state you are in requires proof of citizenship at a traffic stop.
Realistically, my proposal would force the state to ID whether a person is a citizen or not. Otherwise, that state would effectively have an inferior ID that exposes its residents to additional scrutiny when traveling abroad. A person gets pulled over in Arizona with a "Federal Limits Apply" DL from California, AZ gets to apply additional scrutiny on the driver.
