I met an old man on the train today who said he hasn't seen people more annoyed and unhappy since cell phones became so common.

Adding that to my recent thoughts about how social media has positives and negatives; and debating whether the positives out weigh the negatives overall.

And the increasing creative ways people are getting insulted/offended/hurt...etc. by little early and littler things even.

It makes me both examine how I see so much negativity and how hard it is to accept positive things.

Do you think there things (social media, cell phones, resistance to positive things...etc.) are out weighing the positives in life? What are your thoughts on this?

I don't have a cell phone (by choice), and I feel sorry for those who are addicted to theirs. I'm thankful I don't have one. On the other hand, I'm on social media a lot, and I don't think it's adding much value to my life. I have replaced one "addiction" with "another". But I will cut back. Promise. Any time now.

Oh my goodness, shades of F B Skinner. Can we say reinforcement schedules? From the old email addiction to twitter to blog sites, intermittent reinforcement schedules, just as in gamboling addiction. Oh, that's right, F B Skinner was refuted, wasn't he. My the chickens come back to roost!

A "like" on facebook or twitter is a dopamine hit. Rats will starve themselves to death if they have access to a dopamine button. So will humans apparently...

That’s a complicated question, we’ve clearly seen the positives and negatives of this new connection and detachment of one another. Chocolate cake can be both and is always a positive if one shows restraint
