I've been doing some thinking about the Transgender movement and TV/Movies. What really brought this to mind was an episode of Bones from season 4. I had picked up a few seasons at a garage sales and started to watch from the beginning.

Normally on Bones you had the scientists looking at a skeleton and making a positive determination of sex. The psychiatrist on the show made a pronouncement regarding sex that neither of the main characters seriously challenged, which was completely against character and for that reason very annoying.

This was followed up by another episode in the same season where an Asian woman, in real life, played the part of a genderless person, but was later declared to be a male by one of the charters of the show at the end, in an attempt to lay the foundation of confusion because she was obviously a female but they wanted to mess with people's perceptions.

So, I started doing some thinking about how far back this might go.
The oldest occurrence I personally recalled was on an episode of the Jefferson's from 1977. Looking it up I find it called "once a friend".
They used a real life woman, Veronica Redd, to portray a man who was an old army buddy of George Jefferson who had a sex change.

I also remember various episodes of shows like Three's Company and WKRP where as a "joke" played on one of the characters, actual women were said to have been men who had undergone the change.

It makes me wonder just how long the ground work to the war on the concept of what is a man and what is a woman has been going on and where its going.

Can anyone recall when actual transgenders started playing themselves?
Has anyone seen a transperson be a villain? I can only recall it happening once and that was Silence of the Lambs.

If you research Hollywood you will find that it is very evil and a controlling environment for those in and out if it. The actors often times do not a choice the role they are placed in a role as a ritual form of degrading, humiliation, exposed as something they are not for purposes of any reason seen fit. Their families and children as well. In the old west as in ancient times, I have read that sex with other men was common when on long stay away from women. Woman dressing as men were not liked and seen manly and as well as respectful, unruly.

A Transgender horror movie is The Assignment starring Michelle Rodriguez & Sigourney Weaver (2017)

What about the Rocky horror picture show?

It's all so confusing

Interesting that you researched this back to the 1977 Jefferson's. What about Yentil, where Babs dressed as a man? There were several women who dressed as men in the early West, more for protection I think, but who knows, their perspectives were never considered.

I'm not talking about cross-dressing, that goes back literally thousands of years where queens would wear a false beard and be declared king, even though everyone knew the reality, the social convention accepted it.

I'm referring to transgender characters presented in media in an attempt to raise sympathy and acceptance of the idea that being a particular sex is not actually linked to biology.

I personally don't care what an individual does with their own body using their own money, but I do have grave concerns about prepubescent children being labeled as transgender and exposed to drugs designed to retard development until adulthood or people being punished for not believing that a person is a sex they can apparently arbitrarily declared themselves to be.

@RichardStarr ok, yes. I have the same concerns about prepubescent kids. But don't you think cross dressing and dressing in "drag" is also part of the issue? I think these are people who have identity crisis as well. For instance the young boy whose mother took him to a drag show dressed as a girl and put him on the stage to dance. Then was put on good morning America to do the same?

@AZWoman Bringing a child into such an environment was, in my mind, a form of child abuse.
Allowing a kid to try on clothes of both sexes in private is different than doing so in public.
The cross dressing movement of children is an element of the trans movement.

Intellectually I can see a theoretical "good" in allowing anyone to wear whatever they want,
but trying to push the unscientific notion that "gender" is other than a synonym for sex and the
idea that anyone with a non-conforming gender identity is anything but mentally confused is
evil.
