There is something about sex and violence that I have never really worked out. Perhaps all humans are misogynous or misandrist at some level. Certainly there is a tendency for males and females to segregate if left to their own devices. Instincts by definition work at a subconscious level and the scientific evidence for cryptic sexual conflict in humans is overwhelming. As far as I can tell all sexually reproducing species have to have some mechanism for preventing runaway dimorphism. Add to that cultural influences where small differences are magnified at the population level and you can see where religion and sex could work together to produce aberrant behavior at the individual level. Humans are especially keen on perverting instincts for the thrill.
