I suspect that the utility of the green movement to the establishment is both to line their pockets with green energy cash and fear of the power of major fossil fuel players. While ostensibly the fossil fuel industry seems to be playing along, weakening them gives more power to the government and financial sector. It's J P Morgan against John Rockefeller. John D. Rockefeller is rumored to have said about JP Morgan at his funeral: "He owned all of us and he wasn't even that rich".
