When a basketball player knows what's right but our president doesn't.

Why do we deny those with decimated lives due to Dorian any form of asylum? Politics? Really? Xenophobia isn't a good thing. Turning your back on your neighbor in their hour of need isn't good. Is profit all that matters?
I know we send aid, but the aid sent now will leave them far short. But an opportunity here thru temporary asylum could.

Asylum is for political refugees. As we learned from the "Temporary" status that we gave to the Haitians, the repatriating of those that have been relocated is not a well received process. Inviting people to put their lives in flux might be akin to giving an alcoholic a drink so he doesn't feel so bad over the next couple hours. In the long run, they will be developing their lives and relationships in a place they are expected to leave.

"We" shouldn't be sending aid. "You" and "I" should be sending aid as we choose. Further, aid sent should avoid creating a moral hazard. [bahamas.com]

Probably the best thing we could do right now is book a vacation to the Bahamas.

I feel it's all about "me me me" and "mine mine mine" people don't want to share "their" country with "outsiders" they don't want "their" tax dollars to go to those less fortunate outside of "their" country and they don't want refugees to get more than them in any circumstance even if that "more than them" is something they don't need.....
