When you think about it . . . Why is government the principle source of education through 12th grade? It may have been a public policy back in the the early days of our country, but it's become a political monopoly which is focused on it's own survival with teacher unions, political paybacks, etc. Most graduating high students can't tell you anything about the constitution, bill of rights, etc.

Back in early days, teacher were hired by small towns or neighborhoods. If that teacher had beliefs contrary to local mores, they would be fired and replaced. What the government has done is to take that right away from parents and communities. You can see how well that is working!!

There are more and more kids doing online school and home school. For most they don't understand their indoctrination they just don't want to deal with all the crap we only talk about. We are raising a grandson and he will be going into high school next year from his bedroom computer...not because of the teachers here specifically but because of all the gay and tranny kids. The schools are no longer about education they are about politics and parents pushing agendas.

What nonsense.

Every society teaches its young.

Your problem may be with what they are taught, but do not equate what is taught with what is learned.

The problem I have with public education is the notion that educators seem to be indoctrinating children with certain values, but then again, it's still up to parents to step in and challenge the teaching profession. THAT is the big problem, not enough engagement with parents to know what is being taught.

@Conservative I have been a High School teacher for over 3 decades and at least in my country there is a massive misunderstanding of teachers.

  1. Overwhelmingly teachers are socially conservative upholding traditional values over trendy changes. Almost all of these have been one of the following : a politically driven agenda, cost cutting in some form or an attempt to privatise.
  2. In my country teachers do not write the curriculum, set the texts or write the syllabus all of these are prescribed by the elected Government
  3. Almost all teachers are parents too

My experience is that most parents have almost no interest in their child's education. They do not monitor homework or assignments they do not encourage reading they do not even ask about what their child is learning.

The biggest problem in my opinion is parental lack of interest, involvement and engagement with their own children.

One more reason government should not be involved with educating children.

Like you needed one more!

Truth be told there.
