Without the two party system - no more, no less, we are doomed to resume being a banana republic, as we were before the Constitution.

General Washington didn't believe in political parties. He felt the instant identity politics tookover, things would go downhill from there on given enough time going by, he was right...

@SpikeTalon, “Gridlock is not a bug to be fixed, but a calculated feature of our Constitutional framework.” - Justice Antonin Scalia.
I may agree in principle, however in reality, two parties are a necessary evil, and consistent with the separation of powers concept. Three would carry that idea to the level of the Constitution, but where does one draw the line at occasionally getting something done?
"Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action." - George Washington, in a speech of January 7, 1790.

@TimTuolomne I'm not suggesting removal of the two parties, just that they could use some competition at this point in time.

@SpikeTalon, I agree that the Democrat Party could be replaced with one loyal instead to the Constitution. I encourage Libertarians to hijack Democrat voters!
