Wow! I can't remember who it was in the British Parliament but his reply was classic: "The gentlemen uses statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post, more for support than for illumination."

The real danger in not getting people back to work is that there would be a greater potential for a depression, and since we haven't been allowed to have one for such a long time, this one is likely to be biggly. Too many of us have become too big to fail.

Discounting statistics is a Progressive tactic for discounting truths that would disassemble their labyrinthine fabrications intended to displace the truth.

It is true that those unfamiliar with statistics should use them as they would a loaded firearm without training; Keep them locked away.

@TimTuolomne Perhaps I am not as generous as you, I think most of the political class uses statistics to bend the truth. They get away with it because the average person doesn't know that it means B.S.

@ScottforKing, I rather like statistics, however I am careful to notice how they are gathered and the math used to analyze them. It is easy to catch those trying to misuse them if I can get a copy of the paper they are using. If they won't produce it, I might find that suspicious. I find very few people intentionally use statistics to make a point fraudulently, except in casual conversation, which I do not take seriously.
