Washington Post draws backlash over decision to capitalize 'White'
'Stories involving race show that White also represents a distinct cultural identity,' the paper says
Who would have thought people would be having such stupid arguments. As theologian and someone who studies the meaning of language, especially the interpretation of ancient texts, I get the importance of language. But I also understand the ridiculousness of attempting to score cultural/political points over whether or not particular adjectives are capitalized. Is this really what we've come to? Apparently, the answer is Yes. (Notice that I capitalized that answer, which means that it is far more significant. )
