If I remember correctly, Cicero was a pretty big influence on Classical Liberalism, though I wouldn't say he is one. I'm surprised John Stewart Mill isn't up here. I would love to read John Locke, any recommendations on where to start?

How do you want to define "greatness"? and who is counted as a philosopher - only a philosopher, or an economist, what's about psychologists and writers?
