I don't think that it's necessarily fair to lay this at the feet of doctors who have their whole career and livelihood threatened if they take a stand and suggest not having surgery. There have been people who have done this heroically, but we should not expect that all regular doctors should be capable of such heroism, nor should we allow a society where it is required.
