Here in the U.S. the suicide rate among veterans seems to be much higher among recent generations, and I suspect that part of this is cultural. Recent generations have not typically been raised with the same strong moral and religious values or the same strong families as previous generations, for example. As a veteran myself, who is also a member of three veterans organizations, I can tell you that we are all quite distressed at the suicide rate and are trying to involve as many veterans as possible in our groups, trying to establish a "buddy system" to help keep track of vets that are struggling, and encouraging fellow veterans to seek help through the V.A. right away.
