Why collectivism?

Why has collectivism become so damn popular in recent years considering how obviously oppressive it has been in recent history?

If you are a collectivist, please explain to me what drives this idea forward and why you think it is a good method of political and philosophical thought?

The question isn't very specific. I'm a socialist. And I assume that's the kind of thing you mean when you say "collectivist". But you shouldn't really take Jordan Peterson too seriously on this one -many (if not most) socialists are drawn to socialism by their concern for the rights of the individual. There is such a thing as "libertarian socialism", after all, and it's very popular. The "group" is just many individuals, after all... I like socialism because I think capitalism is bad and there are alternatives. What other kind of answer could you possibly want?
