This has contributed to homelessness here in the Great Smoky Mountains where rentals are being snatched up by escapees from big blue cities and rents have skyrocketed to stratospheric heights to where HUD will not cover the property for poor folk that lived here all their lives. Real estate brokers talk landlords into selling homes to these investment firms who then make them too expensive for working people to rent. Home owners are being pressured to sell for ridiculously high prices, but the money is rapidly losing its value. It's totally sick! Good working people are homeless with children in tow because of this crunch.
It's happening here too.
