Reagan and the SDI bankrupted the USSR trying to catch up to make believe weapons of defense against ICBMs and the speech in which Reagan called the USSR an "Evil Empire" sent shock waves through the Russian society. He played the hand he was dealt and saved lives by the way he handled it.
