In Vietnam in the early 1960s, Buddhist monks set themselves on fire to protest the Catholic government's oppression of the Buddhist population of Vietnam. They calmly sat and died in the fire because they knew it would hurt, it would kill them and it would make their point without hurting anyone else. This person, Kai, understood none of that.
