I had a student whose nickname (entire school) was Narigueta (one of many ways to call a person "big nosed)".

When asked what was her professional aspiration she told me "One that will pay enough to get nose surgery. She was 16 y/o.
Three years later, she stopped me on the street. I didn't recognize her and her new nose was beautiful. She said before I even asked "I won't tell you how I got the money for the surgery. Only that now I don't need to hide my face."

Yes, bullying changes and affects a person.

It definitely does,,i was on both sides,,i was bullied when i was about 8-to 13yrs old, until i had an amazing growth spurt in one year,and i started doing the bullying myself,, until i realized that being bullied,combined with my earlier life,, it's probably a "sickness",, I'm not sure how to explain it,but 30 yrs later, it's really clear of how screwed up and really mentally sick i was,(unhappy)and suicidal.

Of course it does. How the victim handles the situation can develop their character. Bruce Lee was bullied as a child and the personal shame/embarrassment was the single driving force that sent him on a physical and spiritual journey that left a legacy. If the victim does not have capable support, someone to advise them with historical figures who overcame for example, the experience can be severely damaging. The good and the bad experiences develop our character. We all have chapters/stories in our life that we can look back on as a reference guide...I would do that differently....I am proud of how I handled that....I am ashamed I did that. Use your own story to learn from and teach. Hopefully you (like Bruce Lee) will leave a legacy and your book has a happy ending.

I believe it can, depends on the person time spent in the situation, if it's excepted or fought. Many factors play a role in how everything changes a person over their life time.
