My idea is to NOT defund the police but to keep them (well funded) for the sectors of population who recognize the folly of the "defunding" idea. Simply pull back - withdraw Police patrols and other emergency services from the 'hood. Too bad for those who live there they should have stood up to the communists/antifa/BLM thugs who are leading them into hell.
Set a hard perimeter around the city blocks who are hostile to Police and don't go in there under any circumstances. Let them boil in their own stew.

The French and Germans tried that and eventually gave up because the "no-go" zones became incubating zones for terrorism.
This was also done in South Africa... we are still dealing with the consequences.
It works the opposite way you think.
@TimTuolomne How did the German's and French keep deeply demoralized and disrespected police from staging sick-outs and/or walk-offs? It takes a special kind of person to weather the kind of abuse that is being heaped on police here without just throwing up their hands and going off to find some other line of work. We won't have to set up perimeters if the police just don't show up and might end up wishing for them.
