Because IQ isn't doesn't correlate quite as closely with success as you seem to believe. It takes ambition and hard work to succeed. Highly intelligent children may never need to put any effort into learning until they're well into adulthood. When they realize how much drudgery is involved in succeeding, they lose interest.
