Excellent quote.

I love the book.

But then what is love, if not living for the sake of another person? And while it may be too much to ask that of another person, when you find another person who is willing to live for your sake, and if you can reciprocate, then together the two of you have a combinatorial power that transcends even love itself. If you swear that off as a possibility, then you'll never get to experience it as an actuality.

Thank you for your response. Well said. According to the philosophy of objectivism love is neither "unconditional" nor "blind"; it is not a blank check granted to random people, but instead the result of our careful examination and approval of another’s character. Living for the sake of another is also living for our own sake, in my opinion. I love my husband and care for him dearly but; I also fear not having him.

Living for another and the other living for you sounds like codependence.
