Horseshoe theory but in Star Wars terminology(because its fun)

Basically If you take the concepts of the Darkside and the Lightside of the Force, and put them at opposing ends of a spectrum.
You have the two opposing extremes at either end of a spectrum.

But then if you bend the spectrum into an arch, like a horseshoe, then you add another dimension to the spectrum, that is you have dark and light along the left and right dimension, but you also have the vertical dimension of balance/moderation in the belly of the horseshoe and extremism/fanaticism opposite to that.
So the further into either the dark or the light sides you go, the further along the path to fanaticism you go, and the further from balance.

This is often used in regards to politics,
Swapping out dark and light for say left wing and right wing politics, or capitalism and socialism etc etc.

You can use it for lots of things.
I find it a super handy concept, being that striving for balance is always of the highest import to me.

Definitely. Both sides were bad. One side didn’t let Anakin become a master and another side blew up planets. It’s really not that difference when you think about it.

Anikin didn't deserve to be master

This isn't adding another dimension because you aren't adding any additional degrees of freedom. You still have to go along the pathway, the line segment, in 1 dimension - light to dark or dark to light. Whether you bend it into a horseshoe, make it wavy, or spiral it into 3D there are still only two directions of travel along the spectrum.

It's a basic distilled principle, which can be applied multilaterally.
Take the standard four quadrant political compass, and you can apply the horseshoe curve to both horizontal and vertical vectors.
You'd end up with something like a dome or bell shape.

Super interesting concept, but with the American political/social structure as it is today, I'm not sure if the two points on a horseshoe doesn't quite depict the point of views represented currently. But I could be wrong

Well the political spectrum is actually from no government or anarchy on the far right...total freedom... to complete government control on the left...total oppression on the far left

@Freeken1
Which is why the balance is in the middle yeah?

@pilgrim_jinn well for people to live together we need society..can't exist without government. And for life to have fulfillment we must have freedom. So yes, somewhere in the middle lies bliss

@pilgrim_jinn all circumstances and all times are not the same so there must be an ability to move between the extremes and is why some people are right and some are left, their circumstances are different. Education and experience shape each persons view. People at the extremes, and I'm talking politically here for the most part, have static, change resistant, ideological views and consider it their job to move as many people toward their Utopian ideal as possible.
