Isn't it ironic when the disruptor becomes the oppressor. The tech industry is deep in the thick of the fog. What will be the next big disruptor to wake up the world?

I've sure the Big Tech are driven by good intentions - fighting evil as they see it. But to be fair (to the Tech), their task is not that easy. Would you like to see videos of hostage decapitations or pornography in your morning feed? Me neither. If FB stops fighting filth and allows any content then it will quickly become unusable for normal people. Some kind of "community standards" is clearly necessary.

This point is often missed by the free speech proponents and it doesn't serve the cause. A better approach would be to stay away from broad proclamations of principles and rather focus on specifics like the freedom of political speech, fighting against the "hate speech" censorship etc.

The current tech companies are likely going to cannibalize themselves, leaving an opportunity for some scrappy start ups to change the market again. 15 years ago instant worldwide telecommunications, could never have dreamed of the state we're in. FB, Amazon, YouTube, PayPal, crypto currency. Uber, instant gps.maps, all new markets established, all would have seemed fake in '04

Whatever it is, I think it can't be purely or overtly political. Most people, unfortunately, gravitate to what's entertaining. Political movements may gain a lot of traction with certain bases, but to disrupt the tech giants, the entertainment industry, etc., I think you've got to put out something with merit outside the political sphere... and then also not cave to political correctness.

Bitcoin, ridesharing, podcasts, and other decentralizing forms of innovation are good examples of innovation that is not overtly political but achieves things that are beneficial for those who oppose tyranny. We need more things like that.

Googles main advantage is they provide the best search engine, by far. Apple (maybe until recently) has provided the most user friendly smart phones. But both tightly control everything. We need decentralizing innovation to disrupt these areas.

I'm sure the next "big disruptor" will somehow involve Apple.

Is it Tech? They are the oppressors? Hmmm.

Apple is dying. They have never been a successful company without Steve Jobs. Without him they cannot innovate. Yes, he was a tyrant. Yes, he was a horrible narcassist. but he steered the ship..
Apple with go the way of Blockbuster, holding together a business model that slowly falls apart.

@WowHaus the new class of disruptor, will likely come from the underground tech world
