Looking at the responses to my posted questions and others it appears to me that many believe that big government is not good for the individual, that it purposely acts to increase dependence on the government. Many see this, yet if this is so then why do we continue to vote for politicians (from all parties) that continue to perpetrate this?

Too many sheepeople out there who do not do their due diligence in researching the candidate and tend to believe what they hear and not the hard facts.

Because the government these people want is utopian, and in practice not something anyone would actually want in practice.

Why do you think politicians promise both more services and fewer taxes when you can only do one or the other?

Because there are a whole lot stupid people out there that continue to vote for those that Promise Freebies. And Freebies are never free, they are paid for by the hard working families that are busy providing for their families.

On a national level, the "Big Players" with money--huge PACs and the big financial donors--always decide who runs (has money for TV and Ads) for election. They have reached a point where they seldom allow for any set-back, although Trump may be one of the last. Like Mafia, they also have ways to always turn successful politicians to their side---Money, Ideologic conversion, Compromise (usually filmed sex), Coercion (frequently threats or actions against family members), and finally Elimination or political ostracism. There does not appear to be any real solution to this mess.

I had no problems excoriating my congressman after he voted for TARP 1. Now I have a leftist congresswoman I doubt will even try to be fiscal. The misconception is that we think the general public wants to limit government. It doesn't. Do they want to cut government spending? Yes except all of the programs that give out money.

The plutocrats own the narratives of both political parties. This will continue until political power is divorced from wealth.

Just a thought, but the will to wield power presumes power to wield.

The people who tend to step into the political arena are the ones who either want to or see a need to use power and influence. They, by definition, would not be self-limiting.

With such a pool to draw from, it's no wonder that the power and control exercised by government seems to grow until it is unsustainable, then repeats the process after the inevitable collapse.
