In recent days I have heard it said that Trumps Bible signing in Alabama is blasphemous. I believe people have an almost superstitious relationship with their Bibles and almost worship the book itself. To me that is borderline blasphemous. We should worship God and take instruction from the Bible. Thoughts?

A Bible signed by the President of the United States? Interesting keepsake, if that is the word. At a garage sale one day, I saw a Bible sponsored or printed by an 'evangelist' whereon the name of the 'evangelist' was printed more than any other thing. I thought it odd, so opened it up to find full page pictures of this 'evangelist' reading it in different poses. Don't even know what I want to say about that! I still have it, after I bought it...as evidence of man's pride. (as if any needed evidence).

Interesting take. I have to admit I truly don't get the whole celebrity "autograph" thing anyway. To each his own.

Hi, I'm thinking that nothing Trump could do could compare to the things that the God of the Bible has done. Who created the Devil and all that Evil in Hell and.going to Hell in future, even Hell itself was prepared in advance for the Evil that was coming without fail.
What could Trump do to the Bible that could be insulting to God?

My knee jerk response was indeed not to respond to your comment. Then it occurred to me that conversation is what this platform is all about. At first I thought you were probably an atheist but then I considered that couldn't be true, because your comment sounded angry and it just doesn't make sense to be angry with a God who doesn't exist. So, it seems to me that you are offended by the fact that there is indeed an evil that we must contend with.Have you considered that is the way in which we have to "earn" God's grace? It totally plays into free will! In life we are made strong by concurring obstacles. If there were no obstacles then growth can not occur. But we have the choice to grow or stay stagnate in our ignorance. If all our needs were met we would have nothing to strive for and free will would be a mute point. We would be essentially robots. Just like in life, there is an emptiness that comes with obtaining that which we didn't earn, I believe God's ultimate plan for us encapsulates that same idea.

@Think

I'm not angry with God, I'm not sure about the character we imagine our God or any previously imagined God or God's to have.
My first exposure to the concept of God was as a five year old entering Catholic School around 1959-60, at least, this is the first memory I have of it because it caught my attention and instantly raised the first of many questions about Religion for me. Questions were a sign of a lack of faith and that wasn't a good thing, I remember.
They asked, "who made you"
The answer "God made me"
They asked "why did God make you"?
The answer "to Know Him, to Love Him and to serve Him in every way, Forever"
I just didn't believe that last part.
They thought I didn't believe any part, but I did.
It was the last part made it sound to me as if God, was Like the Donald in a way.
Materially, he can have anything He wants but He can't get enough Recognition,
Enough Praise, Enough Love from the masses.
I was very young and the whole story was brand new to me, but I thought right off the bat, they're making some of this up and the God I was already imagining had to have far more amazing purposes than that for anything He did as a project.
Creator of the Entire Universe, no beginning or end yet wants more worshipping than all the Angels already do, so makes me?
Can't be.
Upset that Trump signed a Bible?
Maybe only if it was the King James version.
I'm just thinking, the way we all portray God in our Religions is actually scary in the way that Eric Weinstein finds the Donald scary, all that Power at His fingertips and we just can't tell if we're safe because of it or not.
I'm not knocking Donald Trump or God really,
It's the scripts for them that we write that I find say more about us than either of them.
I hope that makes some kind of sense, I've got a lot more questions than answers.

1

What we learn from the bible, how we apply it in our lives and actually change within ourselves is what matters. A bible that is never opened is just another book on a shelf.

Truth!

2

The Bible contains God's Word....... I guess if you feel that it blasphemous if one signs their name in one's Bible, then you must not have any notes, or anything else written in your own Bible.

2

Well said. The idolatry necessary to claim that signing a Bible is blasphemous, is blasphemous.

3

They are wrong. Taking the Lord's name in vain is blasphemy. Signing the Bible is not. Trump is not equating himself with God by signing what is a piece of property.
The Bibles already bear the name of their publisher which would be blasphemous under this person's definition.

Not blasphemy but it when people start to worship him, it doesnt end well to put any human on that kind of pedestal, ever!

I agree with your statement about putting anyone on a pedestal. That said my statement wasn't actually about Trump but rather about the almost paranoid superstition that some people have about the Bible.

@Think probably two sides of the same coin, what anyone else does is meaningless to me, whoever does whatever to some paper won't affect nor will it effect my relationship with my creator

I think both of these articles sum up my view on this:
