JK Rowling retroactively making Dumbledore gay. Should we be celebrating or do you think she is being disingenuous?
Disingenuous. If she's not outright pandering, she should be taken to task for cowardly avoiding controversy when she created the character.
Rowling is the best proof I have ever seen that the Classics have a life of their own. No woman that politically clueless could have written the books she did, unless she was unwittingly passing on lessons from works that she thoughtlessly absorbed, when she was studying the Classics. Everything she’s written down since has been one let down for me after the other.
Sounds ridiculous, why do we even have to know his sexuality? Can kids just enjoy some entainment without adult situations? I've stopped reading newspapers, watching mainstream media news, award shows, and TV shows, I barely follow any sports, now you can't read a children's book without being slapped in the face with sexual themes, enough already. Thank God for books, the History and Food channel, BlazeTV, and Youtube.
Some people will bastardize anything to remain on top of the popularity heap. Even their own works.
I think we should be sad. Mourning the death of true creativity and artistic expression through written word.
We should be weeping for every character we've ever created for any story we've ever told. It's they who will suffer the wrath of the rewriting of everything.
I know those books well, I think it's entirely plausible she conceptualized him as gay all along. His sex life is never discussed but neither are a host of other things. Dumbledore's secrecy drives Harry crazy. The relationships Dumbledore had with Elphias Doge and Grindlewald both point at Dumbledore being gay.
