On encounters with the demonic.

Have you had any?
If you had such an encounter would it make you reconsider the possible existence of supernatural Good (Angels/God)?

I have had no such experiences and, if I did, I would assume it was a hallucination.

I believe the mind is incredibly complex and powerful. I believe it is constantly adjusting ones perception in order to align it with ones reality. Insanity is the imbalance of this equation. Much of this percieved demonic actively is the result of the mind adjusting perception to make sense of reality. Just my humble opinion.

If you ever met my mother in-law you WOULD believe demons exist - TRUST me! in fact Satan him self checks under his bed before he goes to sleep ...... just in case she's there waiting in the darkness.

I had a couple of experiences when I truly felt not only a sense of evil, even malevolence, but that that sense was coming from a presence in the room with me. The second time was incredibly intense, as I felt the fear instilled by that presence just about to overwhelm me. There was no apparition by the way. Just a strong sense of not being the only person in the room. Like I was being watched. The first time was not as bad which happened at another locale. Only that time I found myself looking directly at a particular place in the room as if someone was there, though I didn't see anything.

I consider myself atheist, but have had very strange encounters that lead me to believe that there are "supernatural" things. It might all be in my head, explainable by science, a delusion I experienced, who knows. They were things I personally experienced and I have to believe in my own perspective.

I've seen evil. I've done evil. True evil. The kind of things you hear about in a British accent emploring the audience to take note of and demonize. I associated with the kind of evil reserved for movie scripts and prime time drama storylines. I committed myself fully to the exploration and embrace of evil actions, evil thoughts and evil plans.

None if it is worth it.

Not only recognizing but embracing evil leaves scars on you that don't heal. Ever. But embracing something higher does make life seem like it is possible. Denying yourself the sadism of evil and aspiring to do the most real, long lasting good helps ease the conscience of playing with things, and thoughts, better left alone.

Evil (motivated by sin to inflict harm) does not require demonic possession, but may be linked. Did you experience any evidence of such entities? But if speaking of them attracts them back, please ignore question. Speaking in generalities does not seem to be so attractive to them as case-by-case exposure .

@MarPep it depends on how you define demonic possession.

Some look at it more like letting a concept born of anger or vengeance take such a forefront in your mind that you begin to rationalize behavior you wouldn't should you actually confront those thoughts and "logic" them until you saw them for what they were.

That happens quite often.

The Bible has a lot of credible historical objects and facts to back it up. There is a museum in DC now, the museum of the Bible.

So do you believe in the Bible?

@Harleyman Yes.

Earlier in life I was somewhat conflicted in my beliefs but latter I realized it was kind of hard to believe in anything that there was no evidence even existed.

No evidence that you have yet seen. I suspect those things keep well hidden from people who do not believe in their existence.

@MarPep

Odd statement. You are suggesting that non belief would protect one from such things. Would it not be more likely that belief in such things is the cause for "existence"?

@Judah80 Not protect, but keep hidden. Certainly, fear and belief in anything, real or imagined, can cause one to suspect existence where there is none. That said, certain things that are manifested physically by other entities and intentionally shown to sane and adult non-fearful minds do exist---but reports of such can be reasonably unbelievable to those who have not witnessed said manifestations--or who doubt existence of such possibilities.

@MarPep

So belief in them gives them power?

I'm a believe it when I see it kind of guy, but also tend to believe, at least on some some level, anything is possible.

@Judah80 Again, no, IMO they are much less likely to demonstrate their presence to someone who doesn't believe in them, or who fails to perceive their possible presence--although these demonstrations do occur and can make believers out of anyone. I am referring mainly to demon possession--and I am no expert nor exorcist. Some people have jobs in which they are frequently in contact with other people who are demonstrating bizarre or unusual behavior--police, ER staff, psychiatrists/psychologists, etc. Those folks would be much more likely to encounter such phenomena as we are discussing.

@MarPep

Got it. Why waste the energy if it will not be recognized.

@Judah80 Not that either. More like an evil teenager cleverly hiding in the shadows getting away with whatever mischief he can--until someone spots him, and he gets angry and jumps out throwing birds and cursing at the one who knows he's there.

No. Though young, i hold my confidence in the inaccuracy of human senses/perception tools. In other words, i think all of these "encounters" can be explained by science, such as a misinterpretation of the information the individual has taken in (mistaking a shadow or a noise as something other than what it is).

Never had an encounter with anything that could fall under the supernatural category (demonic possession, magic, witches, ghosts and hauntings etc.). As a youth I believed in all of the above and more, but as time went on and I realized that I had no evidence to back up my beliefs, I started questioning things. Concrete evidence could certainly change my mind, until then I remain skeptical.

One more quick thought... could it be that these beings humanity refers to as angels and demons is in reality nothing more than extraterrestrial creatures, and for lack of a better description some people just refer to them as angels and demons?
