Palestine and Zionism.

I realize all to well that I live in the Bible belt. They try to beat me with buckle of that belt all the time for being an atheist. But now I'm being called a "racist" for my unwavering support of, as was put to me this morning...Zionist Israel. By a man in a Walmart! I have never had a decent political discussion or even a logical one in a Walmart. Seems the left isnt the only ones using this tactic.

I asked this person "Do you know what Zionism even is?" and was told that it was Israels plan to take over the world and especially America and make it a theocracy. What utter idiocy. I was then bombarded with how there are Jesus killing Zionists in the US Government, The media, Hollywood and all these other places where they are supposedly influencing us in myriad and sundry heinous ways.

Zionism wasnt around during the supposed time of Jesus. The ones he needs to blame for that at the time were the Sanhedrin. Zionism, simply put, is a movement for the development and protection of a Jewish nation in what is now Israel. Thats all. It supports the re-establishment of the Jewish homeland in the territory defined as the historic Land of Israel (Judea). Nothing more.

Liberals see it as colonialism at the cost of Palestinian rights. Number one...there is no such thing as a Palestinian. There never was a country called Palestine. Syria Palestinia (Palestine for short) was a name given by the Romans to a conquered area of lands comprising part of Syria, Jordan, Judea (Israel) and Sumeria. It was a bookkeeping term used by Rome for taxation purposes. There has never been a "King" of Palestine or a Palestinian people. they have no history of their own, no native language, no native customs and no native culture. Unless you wanna count Terrorism and even thats an import. Even the idiots who claim to comprise the "Palestinian" people now are mostly Egyptians. Their leaders (like Arafat) are Egyptians and peoples from other Arab nations. Palestinians, under Roman law, were subjects of the empire and included Jews, Jordanians, Syrians and Sumerians since they all lived within this Roman jurisdiction. They were ALL considered Palestinians and therefore subjects of Rome.

Needless to say...facts, logic and reason escaped this person and he made absolutely no attempt to recapture them. I support Israel because they are a staunch ally in the region. They have supported us and worked beside us a very very long time. Many of our technological, military and medical advances come from Israel. I don't care about their religion or beliefs or what others think of their religion of beliefs. I am an atheist after all. I support them because they've supported us. Period. End of list.

If that makes me a racist then I'm a racist in your opinion. Good thing I don't give a flying fuck about your opinion then!

Interesting i had a conversation with a guy on fp where i had thought that the roamans had executed christ and used christianity for their own personal gain but i was wrong. the jews let christ be executed so i can some what understand his views but he sounds suspiciously sounds like a anti semitic and not so much a christian and as for backing israel im all for it these people may be our only true allies in the world

The Romans were only the tool that the Establishment religion used to rid themselves of someone who was annoying

To them. The people loved him

I am a Christian, and I totally support your opinion re: Israel, and the Jews. I do not agree with your or their position on religion, but that can be saved for a different discussion.

Excellent post. That silly twit, AOC, should read your post and get educated so she doesn’t look like such a fool when she speaks on this subject. Oh, wait, I love it when she looks like a fool.

“ the Palestinians” were just Arabs living under the the Ottoman Empire when the Zionist showed up at the turn of the century. They didn’t have leaders partly because the Ottoman Empire fell after ww1 and they were indentured servants to land they didn’t own.
The Zionist, were Jewish immigrants from mostly Eastern Europe, Russia, Poland... who wanted to reclaim their homeland, which was lost after Rome sacked Jerusalem.
One of those immigrants was Ben Gurion, a socialist revolutionary from the Russian revolt, and maybe one of the more level headed, although he did have his priorities. Another was Menachen Begin, the leader of the Zionist militant group the Irgan.
I might be the only one that would love a history lesson here but this probably isn’t the place. There were horrible atrocities on both sides. Not only did the zionists have help from the British government, they also had a large hand themselves. Most of the terrorist tactics used today were first used by the zionists.
Isreal now, is better than the Zionist movement then and the Palestinians, are worse now than the Palestinians then. Both sets of hands are completely dirty on both sides though.
I’m a little reluctant posting this, I’d hate to be shunned from a community I enjoy. Just thought I’d share a little history none of us hear. The MartyrMade podcast does a great job explaining the conflict if anyone wants more info about how things came to be in Israel

THANK YOU! History lessons welcome 🙂
MartyrMade is excellent and the Fear and Loathing in Jerusalem series was pretty dang eye-opening for me. I had always heard about how the conflict there was as old as the books, so I was pretty surprised to learn that it only goes a few generations. I was also pretty surprised by the amount of dirt on all sides. The more you know the more you realize how little you know.

Fear and Loathing in Jerusalem was so well done, it was a dark 25+ hours but I learned a lot, changed my whole view of the conflict. I was also surprised on how relatively recent it started. Always happy to meet another fan of history Halliley! Do you also listen to Hardcore History?

Yep, I'm agnostic and an Israel supporter. You're 100% on all you say. A few points to add:

The modern population of 'Palestine' is mostly only a few generations old. Prior to Jews moving back in the late 19th century, buying land and starting businesses, the Arab population of today's Israel was tiny - and much of it was nomadic. What drew the Arabs in was the opportunity of employment provided by Jews. Ironic eh?

Leading up to WW2, the Arabs in Jerusalem were aligned with Hitler. Their leader was Amin al-Husseini and he led attacks against Jews leading up to WW2. If you search for his name and Hitler you'll find a lot of photos of him with Hitler. The man was a Nazi and the theme continued - today's radical Islam is fascist in nature. Also ironically the Left have in recent years aligned themselves with radical Islam, tainting themselves with fascism too, although they'd hotly deny it.

You can't reason with an entrenched belief . People parrot anti Semitic. It's all they have . If I can get one person to read "Shabti Zvi , Labor Zionism and the Holocaust" by Barry Chamish , I've had a good day . They should know the history of their nonsense . When you encounter an Israel basher , you can at least counter them with real history .

"Real History" Group

I absolutely can learn and have from you in many way's from history to approaching a subject!

Uh oh... careful bro, you're speaking some serious truth here, and you and I both know some folks cannot handle reality well...
