Ever heard of Robert Nesbit? (1913-1996)

Robert Nesbit is recognized as one of three great conservative intellectuals along with Russell kirk and Richard Weaver. Wrote : Twilight of Authority and The Quest for Community

Nesbit argued that every modern political philosopher in the West from Hobbs to present has taken as a starting point: "The idea of a unitary, all-powerful central state ruling over an undifferentiated aggregate of individuals, and which is legally and temporally prior and superior to all subsidiary associations." _ such as Church, family, and community. An example: Communism-- Lenin’s Tomb was inscribed: Everything inside the state, nothing outside the state.

The fact that America's founding fathers subordinated the Federal Government to fourth place behind Church, Family, Community and State Government within a Constitutional Republic is what made the American Experience unique in the Modern West. American style democracy works because not too much is expected of the Central Government....it is to have limited authority. It's exceptionalism is in the very fact that in the American style Republic, the Central State need not provide all authority - that most authority is left to Church, family, state and local governments, and other intermediary institutions and associations. These voluntary associations constitute the social sea within which each human life is originated, nurtured, educated, and seeks its destiny.

Mankind, stripped of natural and traditional social identities--racial, family, religious, community--that flow out of these intermediary, naturally occurring associations, became ripe for seduction by totalitarian states. Hence the need of the Marxist model to stamp out any associations that interposed itself between the citizen and the Central State

I have heard of Mr Nesbit but I don't believe I have ever read any of his works. I shall have to add his volumes to my library and find time to read them. But let me recommend for your reading pleasure the book written by Larry Siedentop, Inventing The Individual: The Origins of Western Liberalism.

“Mankind, stripped of natural and traditional social identities--racial, family, religious, community--that flow out of these intermediary, naturally occurring associations...”

Are an unruly pack of uncultured, thoughtless hyenas who aren’t even decently schooled in a reasonable “pack” mentality ...
By and large they are all screaming Me! Me! MEEE!!!

A pack of hyenas has enough sense to turn on such miscreants and kill them ... for the good of the pack.
Mankind? Not so much.
