This could have been done 20 years ago if the Kutar/Turkey pipeline wasn't an issue. Big Oil wanted to own Syria to push through the pipeline. The purpose of the pipeline was to shoulder Russia out of the Western European market for oil and natural gas. No wonder there has been an ongoing war between proxies.
